Files, covers and looks
TL;DR
- Files holds every video and photo you can post or put in a video. Search by name and kind.
- Covers are named images with a role: profile picture, banner, thumbnail, story frame or feed image. They live in cover kits.
- A look (Setup → Profiles) is a named way to post: which channels, which cover kit, Shorts or long video by default, and default privacy.
Files
Library → Files uploads straight to your organization's bucket and lists what is there: your uploads, rendered videos and their posters. Pick files by name. Nobody types a storage id.
Image and video scenes in video templates choose from the same Files.
Covers and cover kits
A cover kit is a named set of images, for example "Spring campaign". Each cover has a name and a role:
| Role | Used as |
|---|---|
| Thumbnail | The cover of a YouTube video (applied when the post goes out) |
| Feed | The image for Instagram and Facebook feed posts |
| Profile image | Your channel picture (a reference; see Channels to change the live one) |
| Banner | The wide channel banner (a reference; see Channels) |
| Story frame | Story and vertical artwork |
The first cover you add in a role becomes that role's default. When a post does not pick a cover, the look's kit default for the network's role is used (publisher.cover_kit.*, data.publisher.cover_kit.list).
Looks
Setup → Profiles defines looks. A look has:
- a name and an optional purpose ("Recipe Shorts", "Hiring");
- the channels it posts to: at most one account per network and kind, so a Facebook Page and an Instagram account can sit side by side;
- a cover kit;
- defaults: YouTube Shorts or long video, and privacy (public, unlisted, private; applied on YouTube).
One channel can have many looks. New post asks for a look, so publishers pick "Recipe Shorts", not an account (publisher.profile.upsert, data.publisher.profile.list).
Today's limits
- A cover's name, role and default are set when you add it. To change them, remove the cover and add it again.
- A look uses one cover kit for all its channels.
- Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn posts do not apply the cover yet; YouTube thumbnails do.
